The 22nd Annual Taste of Brunswick Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Southside Virginia Community College, Christanna Campus, in Alberta, Va. The festival draws crowds from not only Brunswick County, Va., but surrounding counties as well. The festival will be held rain or shine.

Brunswick stew is ready by 11 a.m. on the day of the festival and is sold by the cup for $1 and by the bowl for $3. Quarts will be sold for $8 after 1 p.m.

The winners of the Brunswick Stew Cook-off will be announced at 2 p.m. near the information table. This year 22 stewmasters will compete. The Brunswick Stewmasters Association sponsors the cook-off.

Entertainment and attractions include: new to the festival this year, the Brake Tyme Band from Henderson, playing a variety of music, Mark Templeton & Pocket Change, the Appalachian Express, a car show, face painting, bounce houses, the popular corn box for the kids, peddle cars, a mechanical bull and petting zoo. Activities for children will be situated in the front of the administration building due to construction.

There will be changes this year because of the construction of a new resource center at SVCC. The festival is working around fencing, and activities for children will be located in the front of the administration building.

Dance It Out from La Crosse, Va., will perform at 1:30 p.m. near the information booth.

The Brunswick County Committee of the Virginia World War I and II Commission will be hosting the Profiles of Honor Mobile Tour at the festival. The interactive traveling exhibit brings to life the state’s role in both wars, highlighting stories about Virginians who served in both conflicts. Also, as part of the tour, the public is invited to bring photographs and other documents related to both wars to be digitized through a partnership with the Library of Virginia for inclusion in the Virginia Profiles of Honor project.
