The Warren County Board of Commissioners recently approved a lease agreement for H.O.P.E. (Health, Occupations, Partnerships and Education) Regional Medical Center to be housed in the former Warren County Free Clinic building at 546 W. Ridgeway St., Warrenton.

The medical office will be operated by Warren County native Dr. DeMaura Russell, who earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Hampton University in 2002 and graduated from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2010. She has been practicing medicine in North Carolina since that time.

Russell considered it important to open her practice in her home county.

“I’m from Warren County. I recognize the need,” she said, describing the area as close to her heart.

Russell told commissioners that she is currently renovating the 2,200-square-foot building with plans to open on Sept. 3.

The lease agreement as approved by the county commissioners would run through Dec. 31, 2022 with the right to an extension until Dec. 31, 2029. The rental charge would be $1 per month.

Russell told the newspaper that she would operate a general practice facility for people of all ages. She will offer a range of primary care services, including geriatrics, pediatrics, gynecology, with referrals to hospitals for such screenings as mammograms.

The physician plans to open her practice five days each week and is working to develop a sliding fee payment scale for patients.
