Millie M. Alston, 93, departed this life on Friday, Sept. 4. Local funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, in the chapel of Boyd & Royster Funeral Services in Warrenton.
Mrs. Alston was born on May 1, 1927, to Roy and Lillie Davis in Arcola. She attended John R. Hawkins High School and graduated from Lincoln School of Nursing.
After retiring from Whitman Hotel in Jamaica, .N.Y, where she was the head housekeeper for over 25 years, she worked in the home healthcare industry. She had a housekeeping business, “Good Housekeeping.”
Millie Alston began her walk with Jesus Christ at Shiloh Baptist Church in Arcola. While living in New York, she was a member of the Kingdom Hall congregation.
She helped family members, friends and the community in many ways.
She was married to Floyd Alston, and God blessed them with six children.
She was married to Floyd Alston and to this union was born six children: Jennie Taylor, (Jorge) Floyd Alston, (deceased) Wilbert Alston, (deceased) (wife Marylin) Debbie Alston, Ronald Alston and Albert Alston (Vivian). Over the years, the family was increased by 75 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Davis; her nephew, John McDonald, who was like a son to her; and a sister-in-law, Sue Davis. Millie Alston was preceded in death by her father, mother, two brothers, three sisters and two of her sons.
