Ruth Nelson Davis, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 18. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 2:30 p.m. at River Landing in Colfax.

Born Sept. 10, 1933, in Lenoir to the late John Boone Nelson and Ruth Crisp Nelson, Mrs. Davis was a longtime active member of First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, where she served as a deacon and elder.

Ruth received her master’s degree from UNCG and taught children for over 30 years. She loved children and taught at Rankin and General Greene Elementary schools before switching to teaching kindergarten at both St. Francis Episcopalian Church as well as First Presbyterian Church.

Ruth was a Girl Scout leader, and she enjoyed golf and an assortment of outside activities. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 62 years, William P. Davis; son, Pryor Davis; daughter, Nelson Edwards and husband, William; grandchildren, Nancye Ruth Edwards, Susan Pryor Edwards, Sally Davis Edwards and William Edwards, Jr.; multiple nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
