Juwan Deon Kearney, 29, passed away on Monday, Oct. 4. A Homegoing Celebration was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at Boyd & Royster Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton. Burial followed in Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Warrenton.
Mr. Kearney was born May 22, 1992. When his sister, Dominique, came along, he was her self-assigned protector. Juwan was a very caring and compassionate young man.
Wherever he went Juwan made a positive impact, always willing to share a better way of thinking or accomplishing a task.
He was a member of Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church, where he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and was baptized. Juwan enjoyed assisting his uncle, the Rev. William Kearney, with several projects, including the Harvest of Hope Community Garden Project, The Faith, Farming, and Future Youth Mentoring Project (where he served as assistant project coordinator) and The Youth Fitness and Wellness Program. Juwan was also an active member of the youth ministry and attended VBS, Youth Bible Study and other activities.
Juwan was a proud member of the Warren County High School class of 2011. He went on to pursue higher education at ITT Technical Institute, earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology in March 2015
He held many positions and jobs, working for the Warren County Schools bus garage, the Warren County Senior Center, Walmart, and most recently Trulite Glass and Aluminum Solutions in Youngsville and Lowes Distributions #1420, in Garysburg.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Nancy Alexander.
Juwan is survived by his mother and father, Wanda Alexander and Terence Kearney; his grandmother, Arconstar Kearney-Powell; his grandfather, Eugene Powell, Sr. (Gail); two sisters, Dominique Kearney and Jasmine Alexander-Richie; a niece that he adored, Anaiyah Nicole Smith; along with a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
