Richard Eugene Pope, 73, departed this life on Friday, April 2, at Maria Parham Health in Henderson. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 9, in the chapel of Boyd & Royster Funeral Services in Warrenton by the Rev. Edward Harrington. Burial followed in Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Warrenton.
Richard, son of the late James Sr. and Ethel Hunter Pope, was born on Aug. 15, 1947 in Warren County. He received his education in the Warren County public school system and was employed as a machine operator until his health declined. Richard was married to the former Christine Hargrove.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Janet, and six brothers, James, Clarence, Allen, Sandy, Hermon and Larry Pope.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Christine Pope of the home; there sisters, Bennie Pope of Warrenton, Geraldine Pope of Louisburg and Dorothy Campbell (James) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five sisters-in-law, Helen Hargrove, Loretta Burchette and Carolyn Greene (Felix), all of Warrenton, Edith Hunter of Baltimore, Md., and Viola Pope of Macon; nine brothers-in-law, Johnnie Hargrove, Charles Hargrove, Thurman Hargrove, Leonard Hargrove, Bobby Hargrove and Kennedy Hargrove, all of Warrenton, and Hugh Davis of Louisburg; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
